What concept is shared by smart houses, the Internet of Things (IoT), smart mobility AND Industry 4.0? The concept of using self-organizaing swarms of cyber-physical systems (CPSs). Typically, a CPS does not come alone: Swarm robotics increases dynamics, connectivity, and complexity of CPSs. This calls for features like adaptability, scalability, robustness, and self-configuration – features that can be provided with nature-inspired swarm intelligence.
